Octocrylene

Octocrylene is an organic compound commonly used in sunscreen and skincare products. It is an oil-soluble, colorless to pale yellow liquid that acts as a chemical UV filter, effectively absorbing UVB rays and some UVA rays (primarily UV-A II range).

Its stability and ability to blend well with other sunscreen ingredients make it a popular choice in formulations, where it often serves as a “photostabilizer” to boost the effectiveness of other UV filters like avobenzone. Additionally, Octocrylene has emollient properties, which means it helps moisturize the skin, giving it a smoother appearance.

However, it can sometimes cause skin sensitivity, especially in individuals with allergic tendencies.
